Hi, I’m Captain Dave Hansen, 100Ton USCG Master License holder and a self confessed fishing fool. I have my Dad mostly to thank for all this. I grew up at San Clemente Sport Fishing where my Dad started his 70 year long career in the industry. My earliest memories are not of riding my bike with friends, but instead chasing bait around in the receiver.
Thirty something years later, after Captaining many of the local sport boat’s on the West Coast, Private Yachts, Deliveries to Mexico and beyond, I am still loving what I do and doing what I love.
All those years of experience have now culminated into Captain Dave’s Saltwater Guide Service, where I offer you access to every bit of my knowledge that I have scrubbed decks for, bowed to my predecessor Captain’s for, and stayed up night after night to learn the art of fishing.
Captain Dave’s Guide Service
My service offers those of you that own your own boat, the opportunity to take the learning curve out of both boating and fishing, and/or refine your fishing skills, by allowing me, Captain Dave, to teach you various skills that are vital to successful fishing trips, including:
a) Boat handling skills(docking).
b) How to use your electronics.
b) Fishing spots along our coast, and most importantly, how to fish them.
c) Tying rigs and knots.
d) Bait selection.
I know a lot of people think that they already know everything, I cannot help those people. Those of you like me, that are always open to accepting new information and improving their fishing and boat handling skills will benefit the most.

Started working on Sportboats at age 11 for San Clemente Sportfishing taught by some true legends…Joe Patterson, Norm Barbre, Don Hansen with offshore experience gleaned from Steve Giffin (original owner of the “Holiday”).
I received my license at age 18 and ran boats for “Dana Wharf Sportfishing” for a couple years, then took a rather long vacation with the US Coast Guard from which I recently retired.
While with the Coast Guard, I continued to run Sportboats and Yachts mostly out of Florida ports.
My last tour with the CG landed me in the SF Bay Area where I became quite profficent at Salmon fishing along with adding to my skills fishing Halibut and Albacore both from my boat as well as running and 2nd license on sport boats.
I retired in 2009, and returned to Dana Wharf where I’ve been running boats as the relief Capt as well as filling in for Dave Hansen when needed.
